you need to know about the differences between
classes and categories of LGV training and HGV training
| Basic facts about each Category (click on one
to get all the facts): |
| LGV Category C+E - age
21 plus; articulated lorry; you must first hold the C
Category licence |
| LGV Category C - age 18 plus;
7.5 tonnes and over |
| LGV Category C1 - age 18
plus; 3.5 - 7.5 tonnes |
| LGV Category CI + E - age
18 plus; C1 with trailer |
Some years ago HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) referred
to two Classes of licence:
HGV Class 1 - artics
HGV Class 2 - rigids
These classifications were changed to:
LGV Category C+E - artics
LGV Category C - rigids
but many people still use the term HGV when
they really mean LGV (Large Goods Vehicle).
In addition there are two more classes:
LGV Category C1 - rigids between 3.5 and
7.5 tonnes
LGV Category CI + E - as C1 with trailer
